Title: Recommendation for a machine shop for engine rebuild in Los Angeles area
Post by: ineedspeed on February 26, 2010, 06:26:21 PM
Hello Everyone, This weekend I am going to open up the engine of the bike I recently purchased. I suspect that the crank bearing are shot on one the cylinders because the engine is knocking badly. I have read many posts here where others have said, "just replace the engine", my issue is that I have been looking for an engine now going on 3 weeks and I have yet to find one for sale locally. I have looked through Ebay and the decent looking engines are going for close to two to three times what I paid for the bike. I would truly like to get this bike running well but can't justify spending that kind of money on the engine. This leads me to looking into rebuilding it. For anyone that has gone the route of rebuilding, how much did it run you? Any recommendations for a machine shop that is familiar with motorcycle engines in Los Angeles?

Would some of you say it's better to just part out the bike instead of replacing or rebuilding the engine?

Thanks for any feedback.

Yes.  Or find a cheap bike with no title as a donor.
