Title: sv650 throttle tube
Post by: jdecaire on February 28, 2010, 10:39:56 AM
ive heard the sv 650 throttle tube is a nice mod on the gs and makes it a little easier on the wrists.
i was just curious as to if the the year matters. i was looking on bikebandit.com and i looked up a 2006 SV650s (http://www.bikebandit.com/2006-suzuki-motorcycle-sv650s/o/m9780) which is the same year as my GS500F  and the part number was 1484328-001 and it is different from an older SV i checked an '02 (http://www.bikebandit.com/2002-suzuki-motorcycle-parts/oem-parts) and a '98 and they both had part number 508015-001
does anyone know if there is a major difference between the two? and which one would be more likely to fit on a 2006 GS500F?

You want any 99-02 SV650 throttle tube.  There are others that fit, but after 02 it gets more complicated since there are two different styles of SV650 throttle.

Great mod.  Everybody should do it!!!

Does it have a shorter throw or what?

1/5 turn instead of 1/4 turn to WOT.

Or if you prefer 72 degrees instead of 90 degrees.

good mod on stock bars, and almost necessary with clipons. clipons leave you with range of motion so less throw is needed. but also very worth while on stock bars, mine was the 2nd best $15 i installed (best was 15t front sprocket)

What's this situation with clipons? I put clipons on my bike but haven't really gotten to ride it much since. Are you just saying it's less comfortable to twist your wrist that far when you're leaning into it?

in order to fully open the throttle you must open as far as possible then move your hand back while holding the throttle open and open it more. you can do it but its highly annoying and not precise. when your leaning it becomes even harder.

Hmm.... so to me it sounds like you're saying stock GS throttle tube=less speeding tickets for me.

I bought a '03 and up months back for my build.  I also bought a '99-'02 last week.  Looking at them together you can definitely tell the difference in years.  The '03 has more mass near the throttle eyelet.  The '99-'02 resembles the layout of the GS better.  Yet you can see the height difference which adds the turning radius.  Glad I got the older one as the newer one would have been some "finessing".

I will say yes, but I can't be for sure.  Would you believe that the throttle tube is on my clip-on but not inside the housing, lol.  I haven't been able to get any garage time lately.
