I have a 2000 GS500 that is destroying my good sense of humor.
The bike has had starvation issues for a while now. Recently bit the bullet and took it into an experienced mechanic. Carbs have been completely torn apart, serviced and put back together with a dyno jet kit. New fuel and air filters. New frame petcock. Everything adjusted to spec, etc. etc. The bike is still starving, it will not come back down to idle once the bike is hot.
Any bright ideas? Cracked carb sucking air? I'm losing it over here. There might be a GS going up for sale in the Portland, OR area very soon.
Check your choke adjustments when it's warm. It may not be all the way disengaging. Check for cracked intake boots, make sure the carbs are sealed against the engine well,make sure the vent lines coming out of the carbs aren't stopped up- I saw a post about a wasp or something building a nest in one. Double and triple check vac hose routings. Does it starve while you have it on the carb prime setting? (middle position)? Is your fuel screen stopped up in the tank itself? Is the tank petcock in the complete horizontal position?(the on the tank itself )
The way I would check for boot leaks is to take them off and inspect thoroughly.
All of these I would go thru and check. You never know, I've seen dead birds in gas tanks before that stopped up carbs..there's some crazy shaZam! in this world.
