Title: Best weight oil for Australian conditions
Post by: Clancy on March 11, 2010, 01:12:06 AM
Howdy
I read some of you guys are using 20w50 over the summer in the states. Would this be recommended for Australian conditions? What weight oil is everyone running in warmer weather, especially you Aussies???
Cheers

I've always used 10w40, summer and winter, in Byron.

Currently considering fitting floats.

I used 10W-60 Synthetic when riding on my 12,000km summer outback journey and it held up fine. Didn't need to top up the oil once.

I use 15W-40 oil year around now.  The GS will run cooler with the 10W-40 or 15W-40 oils than it does with the 20W-50 or 15W-50 oils.  Don't go over 40 weight range unless it's necessary for serious oil consumption problem.

You will get a zillion different opinions on an oil thread as always though.   :icon_lol:

I use the same as the Local Suzuki Motorcycle Dealer uses when servicing.... Motul 5100 10W40.

I live just outside of Brisbane where the temp can sometimes get to Zero in Winter.
