Yup I'm sitting ib front of some old cemetery on the side of i10 with an overheated 2000 gs500e.
I changed the oil 3 days ago and replaced the filter, I realized while on the freeway performance began to decrease and then was just pure sluggish. There is just a bit of oil lraking from the black plugged tube that sticks out from the bottom rigjt, tbe tube has a cap on it I believe I remember this being attachex to the fuel tank?
Anyways just needed to do something while she cools down so I can take yhe bike about a mile down the road to a buddies garage.
Any ideas what the problem could be? Any help is much appreciated.

Over heated as in smoking and hot as hell?
Or, not able to shift and no throttle response, etc?
Will it even turn over?
Red light on?
Did you check your oil level again?
Can be many things.
I just wanted to respond cause you are on the side of the road and on the internet, lol.

That tube comes from the airbox, IIRC. If that's the case, you may have some piston ring issues. Keep us updated!
You are out of gas. Its not possible to overheat on I-10 if you're moving.
Thanks for the replies and support guys, cruised in 3rd and kept it under 30 to my friends house.
Well when I was on the freeway throttle response became worse and worse I assume tats bc of the heat. There was a bit of smoke simply from the oil on the exhaust pipe.
I checked oil and gas levels everything is normal. Oil is still not dark.
I did notice that when shifting into a gear there is a secondary knocking sound that I never used to hear.
Also shifting into and out of gears seemed more difficult...
Any ideas?
Thinking about it another symptom. When on the freeway in 5th I couldn't rev it past 6k and as soon as I released the throttle the revs dropped very quickly slowing thw bike promptl whereas before I could release the throttle and coast for a bit

That is why I asked what I did in my first post. Sounds like what we all go through when on the highway. Damn things starve for fuel and shut down. Can't get more than a few mph and no shifting out of 3rd, lol.

So what causes that? And why would it leak oil?
Weird fuel line routing, hot air on the lines, a tank that is less than full, the fact that 2" of pressure head of petrol is basically nothing.
When it happens to me, I open the tank once (for voodoo), switch to prime, wait 3 minutes, choke it, crank like hell, and off I go.

It's a very common issue to have fuel starvation on the GS. But I'm curious about the oil and difficulty shifting you are encountering. You sure you did not overfill the oil?
run on PRIME and see if it's better ; yes = fuel starvation
clear your OVERFLOW lines from the carb. clean your tank vent.
that'll take care of it, or update your frame mounted petcock.

My "fuel starvation" was caused by a bent needle in the carb. Now I just get fuel starvation because I run out of gas like an idiot!
