Title: Trade springs? I have 0.95, want 0.80-0.85
Post by: intergalactic on March 11, 2010, 01:00:57 PM
Anyone?

I am 175lbs and commute. I got a little aggressive on spring selection for this bike. It is tolerable, but not ideal.

that does sound a little strong, i am 160 and use the 0.80 sonics. also check that your oil level is ok, they may seem too harsh just because the oil is too high.

you want the level with the springs and spacers out to be more like 115mm or 120mm down from the top of the tube, not 100mm as is per stock.

i did per stock and it was super stiff and rough, fixed the oil level and grand!

also make sure your sag is good, about 30-35mm is great.

if you have already done all this, ignore!
good luck.

On bumpy roads it is a little harsh, highways, it is ok. I have very little preload, otherwise getting the caps on is a PITA.

yeah, you went hard core with the .95 springs, and i see in your signiture 20w oil.

and i can imagine getting those caps on with the strong springs might be fun!

that heavy oil will really slow down and harshen up the forks, go 10 like stock.

if your not having any luck getting the lower rate springs, try going lower weight oil and lower level of oil in the mean time.  if you like tinkering, and it just might make a big difference.
