Hello! I read somewhere that if you cut off the moped nipple from your pipe that it would sounds a bit more agressive.. So I tried it and would like to warn you guys not to do it!
My exhaust now sounds like an angry frog trapped in a soup can :icon_neutral:
Heres a video..

Guess that nipple was there for a reason.. Any suggestions as to how I may fix this?
I am sad.
What nipple are you talking about? It still sounds pretty much like a GS to me. Maybe a little uneven, but either way I've never really considered the GS to be all that great sounding.
Inside of the stock can, theres a smaller pipe that protrudes outward somewhat its about 3/4" in diameter and makes the can look like something off of a moped, so I cut off about 2 inches of it (mostly for looks) and now the exhaust has a lot of pop at idle (in a very conspicuous way)..
I might get used to it--but at the moment I'm kinda wishing I didn't do it :nono:
EDIT: Took it out for a spin and the sound is kinda growin on me ;)
DRILL HOLES! Start with three or four smallish holes in the baffles surrounding the pea shooter (nipple). Enlarge the holes/add more until you reach the throaty sound you desire.
p.s. As it gets throatier, it also gets louder. Beware. When I had my '99, I completely removed my baffles. I loved the sound. My bike also had a Uni foam air filter, and was rejetted.
Ah I'm a little weary of drilling holes because I fear the rejet (idk how) :embarrassed:
The bike is sounding a little... old school british if that makes any sense?
Mmmmh nipples.
ok I'll add something constructive I guess...sounds ok if not great, so lesson learned.
One solution: Look left (my present avatar). The infamous Soup Can Mod.
The pictures died on the thread. I haven't fixed them yet, but my avatar is one of them.

If you look up just one post in that thread, you'll see a more typical drilled-out exhaust. Mine had the whole rear baffle chopped out.
you know, there are plenty of opinions about aftermarket pipes just on gstwins, even a few guides about how others made their own carbon fiber duals.
don't ruin your stock setup. sell it pristine on ebay and pick up a jardine or v&h. easy cheese.

It certainly looks better :)
I've changed my mind, I am sorta liking the denippled muffler.
DoD, thats some fantastic thinking! I'll have to try out your Soup Can mod later!
I'm changing mine back to the stock exhaust. I currently have an open exhaust. Well, it has a muffler, but the muffler is so big I can literally stick my fist in it. So it's basically an open exhaust pipe. It's fawking LOUD. I'll record some video of it and post it up before I switch back to stock...
I ran my bike with and without the muffler, and all the muffler did was tone down the raspiness of it...
Yes please! I wanna hear how that thing sounds!
