Title: bandit 12 00 swingarm swap, who made it? (180 tire)
Post by: gsf500RR on March 23, 2010, 12:55:09 PM
So it's seems the easiest way to mount a 180 tire on the GS is to adapt a bandit 12 000 swingarm. Who made it (beside Jim Knopf) ? I know there is a German tutorial available (partially translated in English) to mount a bandit 600 swingarm  but that's it.

I think the swingarm would be the easy part. moving the front sprocket out to match up the chain line is probably the hassle.

Well I guess all you need is a custom sprocket or a 8mm offsetsprocket?

anyway BUMP

I think that would probably solve the problem with the chainline. How much of a gap is there under the sprocket cover? The shifter goes through it, so you can't just remove the cover, you'll have to hope it can be moved out and still fit under there. Search for Jim Knopfs build thread, it's titled something like "Thread that will never die about the nicest gs ever", that's a good place to start.

Thanks, I will look for this.

It seems that the solution would be:

--> custom made front sprocket
-->bandit 12 chain (bigger than the GS)
-->original bandit 12 rear sprocket on the bandit 12 rim

servus,

first you need all the parts from the bandit1200:

swingarm

brake komplett

wheelaxle

wheel

Spacer for repositioning the foot rests, measures (I/A/L) 8,1 x 24 x 20-30 mm

Fitting sleeves for the rocker mounting (smoothed and tempered), measures (I/A/L): 14,1 x 25 x 37 mm

frontsprocket: Pinion from year 95

rearsprocket:  Sprocket with Bandit 520s recording and sharing

The offset front sprocket can be measured only when the swing arm is mounted to the wheel.

The German Installation Guide for the B6-Reconstruction is very good and you must replace actually only the B6-B12-parts by parts.

Good Luck.

Thanks you Jim. I will also use a bandit 12 rear shock.

You talk about a bandit 1200 520 rear sprocket. However bandit 12 rear sprocket is 530.
So should I use:
*->sprocket hub of bandit 12+try to fixe the GS500 rear sprocket (so I can use 520 chain)
In the german tutorial it says: "Chain wheel mount and inner spacer of the B6/RF600 with the sprocket of the GS "

or

->sprocket hub bandit 12+rear sprocket bandit 12+ 530 chain and 530 custom made front sprocket
?

thanks you

Hay you've send me PM
I'm running triumph (sssa, wheel, shock, breake, and sprocket wich I thinned to gs sprocket size), gs chain (shortened) serial GS front sprocket modified, longer (30mm) output shaft, and modified (clutch pusher, 7mm offset, etc, etc) sprocket cover.

translation.....
use the modified gs front sprocket
a 520 chain
and buy a 520 conversion sprocket for the b-12
