Title: Where to cut Fairing for Flushmount Signals
Post by: plurpimpin on March 29, 2010, 06:33:15 AM
I'm in the process of repainting my bike and i'm working on the bodywork right now. I was reading on the wiki that for flushmounts you need to trim the fairing but i was wondering if someone could post a picture of where and how much to cut. I searched but I couldn't find any pictures or better details about cutting. I want to do it now so I can clean it up with the bodywork and not have to worry about scratching the new paint.

here's the signals I have:

The original owner of my bike had put those blinkers on but i have since changed them out.  He didn't cut any part of the fairing to install them.  All he did was drill 2 holes to mount them through and they covered the factory holes just barely.  If anything you could just patch the existing holes from the stock blinkers and then once you reassemble the bike just drill the holes where you want to mount the blinkers.

I have the clear variety of those signals and I did what bassmechanicsz mentioned, just drilled a hole through the fairing and then one through the plastic mount from the stock signals, covers the holes with virtually no effort. I didn't even take the fairing off to do it.

sorry bassmechanicsz didn't mean to offend. i was just alittle confused since the wiki says to cut an you said you didn't. i guess i don't actually have to cut, just drill new holes
