I'm looking to buy a shock and handlebar for a 1993 GS500E.
I read a ton of threads that recommend using a Katana shock, but I'm 4'11", and I really don't want the bike any higher than stock. :)
Currently it's lowered almost 2" with dog bones, but I will swap the original stock bones back in when I change the shock so it's back to stock height.
I did read in one post if you use the Katana with the longer bones, the back end will be at approximately stock height. Can anyone verify this please? Are there specific year Katana shocks that are compatable with specific year GS500Es?
I looked into using an R6 shock, as from what I've read it maintains stock ride height. My question on this is what year R6 shocks fit a '93 bike, or alternatively, how / what do I measure to determine if it will fit or not? i.e., will an '05 R6 shock work? I have only come across postings listing 06-07 R6 shocks.
The handlebar is much easier. I'm happy with stock, but if anyone has nicer bars I'd love to look. I'll likely buy risers to put the bars a bit closer to the seat so the weight is off my wrists.
My shock has cracked the full length of the "rubber nipple" that is around the rod part of the shock, which is why I think it needs to be replaced.
Thank you in advance!
ive got a stock shock that ill give you a decent deal on, I have no need for it as most of my bike is gone now haha. if is off a 99 gs500e so should fit yours no problem
