So when I finally got my bike back together last weekend I tried it out only to find that my carbs were leaking gas pretty good. I had a hard time figuring out where it was really coming from, so I pulled them off and decided to take a good look at them off the bike. I finally got around to checking them out today, and it looks like the reason it was hard to tell where it was leaking from is because it was slowly leaking out just about the whole way around. Unfortunate because it wasn't doing that last fall after I rebuilt them, but I guess they've been reused just one too many times. They're not dried out or anything like that, but I'm sure they're the originals from 91 and just aren't as rubbery as they should be.
I know the correct answer is to purchase some new ones from bike bandit for $6.50 a piece, and I will do that on Friday when I get paid, but I was hoping to mess with my bike again this weekend to see if I could get it running any better, or even inspected, so is there anything I can do that'll work for a couple weeks/month? I didn't know if there were any sealants I could put on the original gaskets just to seal things up tight, or even if I use some gasket paper ro replace the one that's in there, or even make a thin gasket to go under it just to lift it up a little so it'll seal better?
I'm not looking to skip around the real fix, I'm just looking to be impatient and see if there's any way to mess with my bike this weekend, since I probably won't have the new gaskets until next weekend.
Tthhhhaaaannnnkkssss guuuys!
Maybe some gasket paper to raise the rubber gasket for a better seal. gotta be good with an exacto knife though, thats a thin gasket. I wouldnt use any goop or sealant in fear of it getting into the flow bowls themselves.
I'll need to check and see what the thickness of the gasket paper I have is. It's not as thick as the normal gaskets, but it might be too thick to go with them. I wonder if I have anything else, like a really thin piece of plastic I could put under there. Maybe I'll just epoxy the things shut :thumb:
super-glue should work fine :P other than that, I have no useful information
