Hello, I am a new rider and I recently bought a brand new 2009 GS500F :) I've been riding around for about a week now and truly love it! Just a wierd question/observation. When I got back from a short ride this morning I was parked in my driveway and the sun was beaming down on my bike, as I sat staring at my new pride and joy I noticed that the tank was clearly a dark blue in that sunlight, but the rear side panels are clearly black? So what I'm getting at is, it appears the tank is a different colour than the rear sie panels and the faring?? Is this even possible or are my eyes decieving me? If Im nuts just tell me ... but it sure looks a dark blue to me and distinclty different than the rear panels! Should I tell my dealer or will he think I'm crazy...
Thanks,
Fraze
I wouldn't know personally, considering my gs had a very poorly done custom paint job when I got her.
I'ld take a picture and upload it here for all to see if I were you, I think thats what is going to get you the best response.

That's interesting. I don't know that there'd be a difference in the paint since the tank is metal and the tail is plastic, maybe the light was reflecting off of them at different angles?? I'm not sure what to tell you about that one, never heard anyone say that before.
The tank is metal, the plastic is, well, plastic. That being the case...
Doesn't your black plastic have grey on the top side and only black underneath?
Does you tank look royal blue from any angle? How much of the grey pointy chevron can been seen when you think you're seeing this blue?
Your eye can play tricks on you with certain colors. Take this one for example...

Stare at the plus sign in the middle. It will appear that there is a green dot circling and the pink dots disappear. In actuallity, there is No green dot just the pink dots blinking off and then on, in a circular motion. Your eye mistakenly sees the non-pink-dot as a green dot.
Point being, with the grey chevron your eyes may be getting tricked into seeing a dark blue.
In any case, post some pics.

It may be a case of metamerism, where the colors match very well in some light conditions, but not all. Since painting metal and plastic is slightly different (the starting points are different) there may be slight differences in the spectral reflection.

Thanks for the responses ... I finally foud the best way to post pictures. So, in the first pic you can kinda see what I'm talking about, it just looks like a hint of dark blue. In any event, I've had the bike for just over a week and LOVE it, so whether its dark blue or black I don't care :) Its just one of those odd observations. Oh, I've since done my first mod too, a fender-ectomy I believe its called around the forum. Which is a very quick/easy and nice looking modificaton
