Title: Would you believe...?
Post by: bill14224 on April 14, 2010, 08:40:22 PM
My girlfriend's cat knocked my bike over.  Yes, that's right.  I wouldn't believe it but we were right there when it happened.  He leaped off the seat and put enough force on the the seat with his back legs to tip it over!  Rascal earns his name every day, and today was quite memorable.  Only a broken mirror.  I got lucky.  I already ordered better ones!

you obvioulsy did not lean the bike as far over as it could go on the side stand, and shake it to make sure. or you parked the wrong way on a hill

Actually, cats can strike with great velocity. My 13lb cat can run and hit the sofa so hard that it moved it with me in it about four feet once. That's about the same weight as a bike. Perfect angle, hit, etc... I believe it.

My cats are pretty lazy, but on occasion they do get ridiculous bursts of energy. My bike is in more danger of getting little cat nail holes in the seat than getting knocked over though.

On the other hand, having your girlfriends cat break stuff on your bike is a great way to upgrade without her being able to say "You spend too much money on that bike!!" because it was her cat that started it.

In that case, I'm waiting for my wife's cat to steal my bike so I can claim comprehensive and get the one I've been wanting to get. ;)

Actually I did make sure it was securely on the sidestand.  It never occured to me that it only takes about 20 lbs of force from the left to tip the bike off its sidestand.  The bike stays on the centerstand from now on whenever Rascal is around.  He's a big cat.  His weight + his strength is more than 20 lbs, more like twice as much.

There are no hills in the garage.

I believe that. We have a 35lb maine coon and when he gets scare and jumps off our lap it feels like someone sucker punched you in the belly. But don't call him fat, it's part of the breed, he chases down rabbits in our back yard and brings them home to us weekly.  :icon_eek:

they are. We were fortunate to have rescue ours from the shelter. when we got him he was so small that sometimes he would crawl into our empty salsa jars to take naps. who knew he would grow to a 35lb hunting machine. they shed like crazy. so if you/friends are allergic to dander it would be a big no.

Funny you mention Maine Coons.  My girlfriend had one.  Scoobie died 4 years ago of old age.  He was a huge ass-kicker who took no crap from anyone.  You could pet him nicely and he would show affection, but if you ran up to him and try to grab him like her husband's drunk friends would do he'd tear your hide off.
