Title: some compatible sport bars
Post by: gregvhen on April 16, 2010, 09:14:09 PM
I had dirt bars on my bike. uncomfortable for long trips. looked for something more clip-on orientated. found some bars off one of those schwinn stingray bicycles thats made to look like a chopper. very comfortable and more sporty than stock. had to grind a little bit out of the middle so the key would fit. also had to extend the bar on the left side a little bit, or cut the grip. no big deal. end of storey. will post pictures tommarow. going to bed now.

I had to do this with my clip ons, it was rather obnoxious. The left side was actually ok, it was the right side that wouldn't fit right. If I didn't use bar ends it didn't matter, but the throttle tube stuck out over the end of the bar and if I ever dropped the bike on that side I'm sure it would've cracked it. I switched to dirtbike bars so it's not an issue, but before I put the clipons back on someday I plan to try and extend the tubes a little bit. I'm just going to cut off about an inch of an old bicycle handlebar and press in a piece of steel tube that's outside diameter is the same as the handlebars inside diameter with some jb weld. It doesn't need to be as strong as the rest of the bar. It's primary function will be to hold the bar ends, it won't be supporting my weight or anything. Then once I figure out how this welder works properly I'll try to actually weld them on.

Those handlebars remind me of the ones this guy made...

its funny because my daughter has one of those bikes and it hangs over my gs. I always look up and think they'd look good on a gs too!
