My 07 500 - 22,000KM
How do you know if the bike is running too rich or too lean? I want to be getting optimal power...
The bike pops like crazy when: 1) accelerate up to 6 or 7K on gear 1, let go throttle POPS, and open clutch for next gear..annd POPS when 2) ie) accelerating in any gear...say above 4 or 5K rpm....when let go throttle...bike pops...
Mind you, I have yoshi slip-on with silencer out...but I dont think this is normal...Its done it always....since 11500KM...
Has oil consumption...idle falls to like 1000 somrtimes..when coming to stop at traffic light and I almost think the bike is going to shut off..
Do your valve adjustment, that solved all my problems, and add air to the tires, runs like new.
With Lemon Pledge.
pour some skim milk in the oil hole
What is this Lemon Pledge???!! LOL 2nd time mentioned, don't kow what it is...
Skim milk in the oil??.....Guys are you serious?
The skim milk thing is a joke. You can polish your bike with Lemon Pledge. It's beneficial mainly for quick touchups for people who have a lot of chrome. I also hear it makes it go faster.
you can only tell how your bike is running by plug color pull them and look at what color they are white is lean black is rich coco brown is good.
I just changed plugs...they were black...what should I do? Just valve adjustment?
black means rich which means you prob need to monkey with the carbs. Is the bike stock except for the exhaust? Did it ever get rejetted?
if your black you need less fuel with this setup or you can open up the intake with a K&N air filter or equal and that will get more air flowing in and lean it out a bit
Tried to find the page with like 15 or so photos of different spark plug conditions and their causes but my quick search only got me the Haynes Chart - see below...

Anyone else know the other, more extensive chart I mentioned?
Michael
I know which one you are talking about, but I can't find it either....
Here's another, not quite as good.

once you go black you don't come back....
Found it. Found a PDF of it on my computer, copied the name on the top and found a HTML page with it... http://www.verrill.com/moto/sellingguide/sparkplugs/plugcolorchart.htm (Seems I'd made a PDF of the page when last it was posted)
Michael
Nope, never rejeted....stock...except yes the slipon Yoshi...which is nothing really....also my air filter...looks clean...but I dont think its been changed and now at 22,000km...should change it?
What would I need do to the carbs?
you either need to flow more air free flowing air filter or you need to drop 1/8th turn at a time til you get the coco brown look turn on the air fuel mixture screw
its a pretty big pain, since you cant just turn it, run it, check it turn it, run it check it. you gotta turn, run it for a while, under regular riding conditions cause you need to the load, check it. and again. you wont be able to just run it for 30 seconds and see what the plug looks like
Yea I hear you about the adjust and waiting.
Where is the air fuel mixture screw?? clockwise or counter-clockwise? Its not the idle screw is it?
hey, quick question, i dont wanna hijack. my left plug is perfectly brown, but my right plug actually looks a little brownish redish pink? is that lean?
