Title: Velocity stacks?

I was wondering if anyone on here has ever thought of, or successfully made some velocity stacks for the GS, like on bigger sport bikes.  I was thinking about removing the airbox and getting some straight tubes to attach to the carb and either a lunchbox, or indiviual pods on the other end of the tube.  I wasnt sure though if velocity stacks were just a gimmick of if they actually help at all

Velocity stacks work best with no air filter, which is not something I'd want to do on a daily ride. As the engine strokes it's creating pulses of in and out gases, the shape, length and flare of the stack will be tuned to the engine and these pulses and it will also have a better venturi effect, overall to gain better(faster) intake velocity at a given RPM.

They work on bigger bikes because you can then enclose the whole undertank area (carbs inluded) and make it as in affect one big airbox with the tank being the lid. Even better if its got some kind of ram air setup.

If you get a velocity stack then stick an airfilter right on the end of it you're not really going to be doing much in terms of performance. It' will negate most of what the stack is designed to do.
