I was riding today and started hearing a weird rattling noise between 4.5K rpm and 5.5K rpm.
When I drop below or above those RPMs it doesn't make the noise.
Also doesn't make the noise when idling.
Any suggestions on what it might be?
My bike is a '07 and has 6300 miles.
I had the dealer do the 4K mile service so valves should have been done!
Any input would be great.
Thanks!
does it sound like metal on metal? does it only do it while riding? a sound clip would be great its so hard to tell on a weird sound when its not right in front of you. i wouldnt think you would get a sound out of the valves only at 4.5k to 5.5k rpms i would be more inclinded to look for a loose peg or bolt with a washer thats getting the right vibration at the 4.5 to 5.5 rpm to make the sound.
^^^ That's probably it.
Thanks guys. I will try to get a sound clip.. Damn rain for the next 3 days here! While it is raining I am going to check as many nuts/bolts/connections as possible.
I thought our bikes always had that harmonic vibration at those rpm's? Search 4.5k rpm's.
I had a similar thing with my '08 F model, turned out to be faring bolts, specifically the ones that hold it on either side of the tank. Theres a metal clip for each that can rattle about @ 4-5k rpm. ;)
Mine is naked.. So it can't be the fairing bolts. Any other usual suspects I should check before I start tightening every single nut and bolt.
That rubber bumper under the gas tank.
I agree, on the gas tank.
I noticed a resonant buzz at 5K on my bike.
Turned out to be the rubber bumper under the front of the gas tank slipped loose. (probaly when I was working on it).
I put back on properly and it went away.
did u check the cam chain tensioner? prob not but might as well check right?
My bike also make some weird noise at idle, not sure if it's the cam tension or not, but at idle it would make noise every few minutes, it sounds like the cam chain vibrates and hits something. What can I do to fix it?
+1 for the rubber bumper under the tank. Had the tank off / on yesterday and noticed the 4500rpm buzz disapeared.
