Title: Scratch has an addition
Post by: scratch on April 27, 2010, 10:55:47 AM
I went to the shop to buy oil and a filter to do the 52,000 mile tune and service on the GS, when I saw this on consignment for $2300; it's a '96 Yamaha Virago 750 with 31k miles on it:

I helped a neighbor do the carbs on his 96 viagras and it wasn't pleasant but not unamagable.

750 is easier than 1100 to yank the carbs out. My record for out on my 1100 was 9 mins with 9 pics taken along the way.
I have done it back in in 15 mins, but I ahve some mods to make it easier. 750 can be even easier I think. However the 1100 has a 10mm dia bolt on the bottom allowing you to pull and clean the thing quite well. 750 does not.
Valve adjustments are a nightmare too. Again 750 may be better than 1100.
Cool.

Buddha, IIRC i had a 750 or 700. wasnt HARD perse to get the carbs OUT. my gripe was i dropped an effin screw INTo the intake of hte engine. had to use hemostats, and a magnet tool to fish the damned thing out, was either do that OR pull the head

Oh yes come close to that many many times, the manifold screws are in a very very awkward spot and very hard to grip.
