Hi I recently said hello to the road surface with my bike. I am ok and the bike is mostly ok. My question is about handlebars since I am having a hard time finding some in Australia today.
Do the 89 clip ons fit on an F model
If I get another brand do I have to drill holes for the switches like the old handlebar
Thank you very much for your help
ps yes I did search first.
I had these (http://www.amazon.com/Bikemaster-Street-Handlebar-Drag-Chrome/dp/B000ONZPUI) on my '99.

They are more agressive than the stock bars, but not as agressive as clip-ons. Yes, you have to drill holes for the stock controls, but it is easy and the bars are very inexpensive.
you can get those same bars pictured above for about 30 bucks here in US off the internet, i would assume itd be similar down under. but itd be easier to just cut the little tabs off the controls instead of drill holls. theyre not a gonna move on ya. here, see what style you like best. i dont recoment the low dirt bars, i had em for a little bit and theyre not very comfortable. http://www.flyncycle.com/Handlebars_s/47.htm
I also just cut the nubs off the controls when I switched bars. You really don't have any way to know exactly where you need to drill the hole in the new bars, since if they're a different height your hands will be at a different angle. Mine definitely don't move.
I think people say clipons hit the fairing on an F model, but you could trim down the fairing a little, as clipons definitely make for nice handling on twisty roads.
I have clip-ons on my f model, they dont hit a thing
I ended up finding some clip ons so I am currently installing them

Only aftermarket clip ons hit, like the kind that you have to slide over the forks, they hit if you put them under the triple, but the 89 clip-ons dont

I have aftermarket Tommaselli adjustable 37mm clipons and thet dont hit the tank or the fairings at full lock either direction. I think its because I set them up as drop clipons and they are almost under the tree in height, they fit nicely in the fairing pockets.
The low 89er Clip Ons will hit the tank. Use the meduim or high version as seen here: http://gs-500.info/images/9/9b/Bock5k.jpg
Buddha here was making bars for the longest time, worked/felt almsot liek clipons, ( so ive heard/read) idk if theyre still around, or still available, or will fit an F
