Title: A laser in the motor! (maybe not a laser but it sure does sound like it)
Post by: pixlgeek on May 01, 2010, 09:14:19 PM
Ahoy GS'ers,

In all gears, when cruising at around 4.5k RPMs, the motor or transmission seems to make a very high pitched laser like sound. It almost sound like a servo is moving or an electric charge . It's really sort of hard to explain but I tried lol. It only happens for a brief second and right at those RPMs.

I've read a bit on the 4.5k problem but the search feature doesn't like queries under 4 characters so I was pressed to find many topics on the problem.

Just wanted to make sure the motor isn't going to fire a giant laser beam out the front, although that would be a nice feature.

Thanks for looking,

my bike does that when the warp drive is energizing, indicating my desire to go into hyperspace.

other than that, I dont have any useful info

you should try to make a video with good sound so we can hear, the description you gave is very ambiguous.

P.S. lasers dont make sounds, only in movies ;)

Pixl:

Let's say you're in 3rd and you keep it at 4.5k rpm. Does it become a rhythmic thing. Almost like pulsing?

Or is it more like in Gghostbusters - when they turn on the power pack in the elevator and it Humms to life and stays humming like that?
