Title: quick noob question.
Post by: smaeda on May 03, 2010, 10:12:31 PM
I just picked up an 07 gs500f few days ago. I ripped off all the fairings already to do the naked conversion.  The question is what kind of 7in. headlight so I need? I noticed the headlight harness has two plugs. One for low beam and the other for high beam.  If I just got an h4 bulb would I lose the highbeams?  Are there any headlights that can plug in both connectors?

Thanks in advance

I did the exact same thing to my 04 gs500f and I used this headlight http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/gs250-gs300-gs500-gs550-t500-gs-suzuki-headlight-kit-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e11f80a7QQitemZ360259223719QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/gs250-gs300-gs500-gs550-t500-gs-suzuki-headlight-kit-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e11f80a7QQitemZ360259223719QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) . . . I just used a hammer to reshape the brackets. I dont think you will lose your high beams either

Those two plugs are not hi/low.  They are headlight (with three wires, hi/low/ground) and "parking light" (two wires).

I was looking at the exact same set-up but the website says the brackets can only fit up to 36mm forks.  Is that why you hammered it? Or is it becasue the bracket didn't line up straight with the forks?

Aaa I see.  Thanks for the info.  So I don't need the parking lights then correct? Or is there a single headlight that I can still plug in the parking light connector to?

Some here have used their GS-F headlight on their naked conversions mounting them to the forks with inexpensive aftermarket brackets.

I used the same brackets that said they'd fit up to 36mm, they worked fine on the GS forks, just needed a little convincing.

Thats great to know. The price jumps considerably for the ones for the bigger forks.  I might try those out for they are like 15 bucks.
