Title: Battery getting drained
Post by: bombjack on May 07, 2010, 11:48:41 AM
Hi guys,

I've had a lot of problems with my '95 GS lately like rough idle and bogging. Then it got worse and my bike would die every now and then, and it could not rev beyond 5000 rpm.
I'm pretty sure it's an electrical problem because now it drains the battery after a few days.
With the engine running, the battery reads 12.5v even if I rev the engine.

What's going on here? Is it the rectifier? Or the stator? Or something else?

Hope someone can help me out here! Thanks in advance...

Can anyone tell me if a dead rectifier would cause the bike to sputter and bog down?

Hi,i`ve had intermitant missing when reg/rec faulty.Clean connectors to battery, reg, starter solinoid charge batt. You should have 13.5-14.5dc at battery when running with lights,if not most likely need a reg/rec.
If your bike has further issues with not revving out i`d check carb diaphrams.

Assuming the battery is sound fully charge it, then unplug the reg/rect and leave it for a 3/4 days. Reconnect the reg/rect and try and start the bike, if the battery has stayed up, the R/R is shagged

Thanks for your help. My RR is done. I just wanted to know if the defective RR was causing my bike to run like crap but I guess not.
