So, I just saw this on craigslist for $40...

A few questions:
1. There are a few posts on here of gsxr rear wheel swaps. It's not clear whether the swingarm needs to be switched out as well, or if I can use the stock GS swingarm.
2. The wiki says that you should use the gsxr rotor with the gs caliper, but the Craigslist poster seems to think the gs rotor will bolt on to the gsxr rear wheel. Is this true?
3. Is this even worth it, or should I keep looking for a Kat rear wheel, since that seems to be much easier.
This wheel will fit I know, I have slapped it on ... almost a firect fit and yea you have to use gsxr rotors and caliper.
That 170 tar will need to be replaced with more sane rubber though.
The brake arm needs to be bent, the sproket may need spacing out, but swingarm can be fine with 160 or less tar. Of course 160 fits a b4 wheel, and that is an even easier fit.

or a bandit 600 which I have is almost a direct bolt on.
Why would you want to perform the swap? A larger wheel just means more weight to spin up, so you're effectively loosing horsepower. It's not going to gain you any traction. Even with the stock 130 profile rear wheel, you're going to run out of cornering clearance on the GS, long before you run out of grip.
It's pretty easy to find rubber that fits the GS and the Kat rim.
So... I can't see any point.

Oddly some of the 4 and 4.5 wheels, without the weight of the tar of course is lighter than a GS wheel.

I imagine a 4.25" wheel would be the ideal swap, so that you fit a 150 tire how it's meant to be fit. Radial rubber feels so much nicer than bias ply...

You can fit 160 tire, not 170. Dunlop D207 is too large, prefer a Michelin/Pirelli/Bridgestone.

I have both and the 88 GSXR wheel is slightly lighter, surprised me too. The newer kat 6 wheel with straight spokes even lighter. The B4 wheel isn't lighter, its a shade heavier, but ease of fit trumps em all.
And junkie - 4.25 width wheel - no one makes em. You get what is readily available dude.

Maybe it looks cooler. js. the gs wheels arent horrible, but there are some sweet lookin wheels out there
