Title: bike not starting 06 8k on the clock
Post by: adam37745 on May 20, 2010, 07:33:55 AM
I bought a 06 gs500f a month or two back with 8000 on the clock. I've put maybe 1k miles on her and now shes not starting. when I push the ignition the lights don't even dim; like I'm not even pushing it. I know the battery's good. Every once in a while it will crank right up like theres no problem at all. Is this a starter problem or some sort of sensor?(clutch, kickstand, etc.) kinda bugs me this things already having problems. >:( any help would be awesome!

Check the wires to the relays and make sure nothing is frayed and the contacts are all solid.

This is very likely a problem with all the stuff that stops us riding off with the stand down, or our boots on the wrong feet, or anywhere other than church when its Sunday blah blah...
First thing is pull the leads off the clutch switch (at the clutch lever) and plug them together. This bypasses the clutch switch, and if it works OK then thats the culprit. If you still have problems get back to us.
WARNING:
After doing this, do not press the starter while the bike is in gear and your cat is lying in front of it.
Also, there'll be no protection against riding off with your helmet on backwards, so if it looks kinda dark, just check that. :thumb:
