however, a check on www.ronayers.com indicates that only 89 to 2000 gs500 will fit. which is right? anybody use one off the other bikes? I personally like the prices for gs550 ones on ebay such as this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-Motorcycle-GS-550-E-GS550E-Flywheel-ROTOR-/360240192390?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53dffd1b86#ht_500wt_956
You don't say what year model yours is. I don't know if there's any differences, but if not then obviously Ron has his head up his ass.
At that price its almost worth buying the eBay one to try it. If it doesn't fit its still good for holding a door open!
i thought i put it in the post, its a 95
one concern is, the gs rotor has 6 smaller magnets ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-GS500E-Generator-Rotor-Flywheel-GS500-E-GS-500-/140410460182?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b11d9816#ht_955wt_939 )
while the gs550 rotor has 3 larger magnets ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1978-Suzuki-GS550-GS-550-Rotor-NO-RESERVE-/360213702518?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53de68e776 )
would that alone be enough to make it incompatible?
3 or 6 magnets will work but 6 are better for the charging system. It has to do with the AC current. It was explained to me once in a post or PM but I do not recall the details, not an electrical guru. I have used GS450 rotors without any noticeable differences.
Oh well, I guess I better find that sliding hammer then.
I have a 92 with rotor just waiting to be yanked, and I am getting tired of looking at it too.
20 bones and shipping and you get the sliding hammer as a free loaner too. Dont send it back, just hold it for the next guy, though I seem to have had one SH go awol that way.
Cool.
Buddha.
