Title: Anyone have a GS, or other bike in the ball park of $700-800 to sell?
Post by: jrains89 on May 26, 2010, 03:09:04 PM
My buddy is looking to join the motorcycle world and has a budget of $700-800. Any response is welcome, try to help another person stuck in the car world see the light!

That's gonna be tough to pull off in that price range.  He might be able to get a '70s or '80s era running motorcycle on Craigslist for that much.  I've seen a bunch of motorcycles in the now largely non-existant "in between 250 and 500cc" category in my area for that price.  Some of them ran too.

It's not uncommon to see good condition GS's on craigslist for $1200-1500.  Here's one right now in L.A.

You can get Ninja 250's and 500's for about that same price range too:

I doubt you'll find anything in the $700-800 price range that won't require at least some mechanical work to get running.  I would recommend saving up a little longer, and just continue to watch craigslist, and eventually a good bargain will come along.  Plus, if you buy a decent GS for $1200-1500, you won't have any problem selling it for the exact same price you paid for it.

Also, your friend should factor in at least a few hundred dollars for riding gear.

well obviously i understand that a gs for this price would need some work, which is where i come in. he's been looking at 70s cb350s and similar bikes. just thought I'd make a post here just in case somebody needed to get rid of a high mileage bike or something.

Well, if you wanna drive to NC, I'm willing to make you a deal.
But, that's a considerable red-eye.

Keep an eye out on craiglist. You're no where near me in pittsburgh, but I've seen 2-3 gs's going for no more than $800 in the past week or two, and a lot of people on this forum have gotten their bikes for well under $1000.
