Hi guys, I took all the plastic and front headlight/blinker/framework off my 07' GS so I can make a retro look cafe racer out of her, what I need to know is what bracket/dog ears/bucket will fit directly on her - I believe the fork tubes are 39mm? any pics would be great too
greatly appreciate it!
Mike
they are 37
Thanks Smaeda -
You can get the $15 headlight brackets off of ebay that fit. They say they're supposed to fit up to 38mm, but they're really sized for 35-36mm or so, but a little bit of love with a hammer takes care of it. That's what I have on mine and they've held up well. You may even be able to find someone on here who has their original headlight and headlight bucket that fits for sale.
If I had to do it over again, I would try to source out the stock E model brackets. The e-bay cheapo ones work but they still look, well.....cheap.
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=52251.0;topicseen he's selling a headlight.
If you can find them I recommend the stock brackets too. i had to find other ones because I put clipons under the top triple and they wouldn't fit, but someday when I move them above the triple clamps I'll put the original brackets back on.
Thanks for the links and info guys, the headlight is readily available, I guess I'll go with the aftermarket bracket for now - thanks again :thumb:
I will try to find an oem 500E bracket set, I'm trying to go with some of the old school Dunstall British parts so the brackets will not be visible
after the 'bullit' style fairing is on -
If you go with after-market brackets, make sure you have a way to mount the turnsignals. The E model bracket had a turnsignal bracket attached to it. Some universal brackets don't have extra holes you can use to mount the turn signals. Another option is to use the turnsignals as your headlight mounting hardware. Just make sure the stalks are long enough so you can put a nut on the inside of the bucket.
That's a good idea, but make sure your turn signals are nice enough if you're going to do that. Mine are cheap plastic and would never hold up if I tried to tighten them down enough to hold the headlight.
The brackets I have that I got off ebay have several holes down the length of the bracket, so I was able to just bolt them into one of the extra holes.
