So I am back to post again after i finally got around to doing some work on my bike since i bought it. Looking for some advice again as this is my first bike and I am fairly new to this although this forum has been a wonderful resource for me and i learned a lot so far.
So I had that hesitation problem at low rpms and I pulled the carbs out today. Already talk to buddha and I am shipping them tomorrow for a cleaning and a rejet. Thanks buddha!
I also ordered new sprocket and a chain since i had that rattling sound when slowing down on the swing arm guide. I noticed that the front sprocket has some freeplay in it side to side and it worries me a little bit. Is that normal?
Also after i took the carbs off i took a peak at the intake valves and they are covered in carbon buildup and that worries me even more :o
Its a 02 with 3700 miles on it so I was a little shocked when i saw the amount of buildup on the valve. I even took a picture let me know what you guys think.

That aint nothing, get a toothbrush, spray penetrating oil on it, get in there and brush it on a few times. turn the motor over a few times and do it wiht the valves open. I've seen worse, and dont worry its quite normal.
Then be a man, use that same toothbrush to brush your teeth and then kiss the wife/GF. Yea they love that, hey, if its good enough for your bike, its certainly good enough for your GF.

I'm no rocket scientist, but I'd be worried about play in the sprocket too.
May be normal, but you'd better post pictures of it. So we can argue about it, and reach no final conclusion either way, of course.
How much play is there? Willing to sacrifice a set of feeler gauges to measure it?
I figured it would be hard to show it in a picture so i took a short video of what it looks like.

Sprocket looks pretty floppy. I would replace. Hopefully it is just the sprocket, or maybe it's the wrong one. It is possible the splines on the shaft are badly worn. If so, there isn't much you can do about it. Run it till it slips then get another motor.
The movement inline with the direction of your coutershaft is normal. The movement inline with the countershaft sprocket (the direction the chain turns) is not normal. I'd pull the sprocket off and inspect to see whether the splines on the shaft are worn down, or if it's the sprocket that needs to be replaced. I sincerely hope it's the latter.

Yeah that's because i just cleaned it yesterday, there was a ton of black grease with bunch of crap in it before that lol didnt look pretty at all.
Yeah I pulled the sprocket off last night and looked like the shaft looks OK, to me anyway. I just ordered a new JT sprocket online and hopefully that will take care of the problem. I just wasn't sure. Thanks for the replies guys ! This forum has been really helpful ! :thumb:
