Title: PC help
Post by: harrypotter on May 29, 2010, 12:04:23 PM
so i think i have a virus and it is winning the battle!

these are the screen shots of what it says...everytime I click the X or click OK it shuts doun my computer. I have used McAfee and Avast and they both find nothing. The icon that looks like light blue bricks falling apart is the file. I delete it and it comes back every startup. I have googled and found nothing!

This probably will not be what you want to hear but if I were you I would format your computer and start over. Either you really do have a nasty registry problem or an equally nasty virus. You may get rid of the virus...but how would you ever know for sure? If you leave any work related documents on your pc or do online shopping or banking you are just begging for trouble.

Format and start over. Be more careful next time.

PS...1996 GS500 the only one in Okinawa, Japan...and it needs rebuilt! ... You really have the only Japanese made GS500 on a Japanese island?

GS500 made in Japan, never sold here!

It's not at all uncommon really Xealot.  Ford makes an econobox/escort with a diesel capable of 50ish mpg, but we don't get it here.

I didn't know the GS500 was not sold in Japan. But, that makes sense, what with riders have to go through to get a license to ride above a 400, might as well start at 600Rs and 650s to make the hassle worth the while.

Down in Aust, we've only started getting the CB400 Superfours from Honda. Sure, there's always been some Importer bring them in with no real warranty cause they were a Japanese model. But now that most of Aust has adopted a Power Restriction system not a straight CC restriction, Learners can ride CB400 - just like they can ride GS500s - so it makes sense to bring them in. They're over-priced in my opinion. And for the same performance I'd rather have a GS. But, if the market's there, why not. The mid-range down here is not catered to well.

Yeah, but doesn't Ford manufacture that car in Europe? It would be just as strange if Ford manufactured a 50 mpg Fiesta diesel in Detroit but only sold it in Europe.

I've driven a diesel Fiesta in The Netherlands and it was easily good enough to sell in the States. Kinda small but well built.

you sir, have some sort of mal-ware

my friend often has this problem, so I created a restore disk for him, all he has to do is pop the dvd in his drive, and an hour later he comes back to a fresh install of xp.

my friend is just too dumb to use an anti-malware program

HP, get a USB hard drive adapter and use another computer to get the stuff you want to keep off of your computers drive.  Then just reformat yours and put your data back.  If you honestly have a terrabyte full and don't have enough space to keep more stuff then i would just go out and get another hard drive.  that way you can keep important things backed up and not so important things on just one drive.

The real question is - are you (or have you ever been) a samurai warrior?

If you live in Japan and trust an anti-virus program to find something tearing your registry apart - I'm suspicious.
Are you from the Black Sand clan?

One terabyte of porn?(!)

:nono:

Does kinda explain the origins of your virus problem though...

format, install, use.

give it 3 months then: lather, rinse, repeat.

or, use that awesome terabyte of space to store a working disc image, and just re-image once a month. you'll love yourself for it. :-)

That is a helpful screen shot to refer back to as you format your PC and reload Windows.

I guess I don't understand what the issue is.  :dunno_white:

Format every drive on your PC to include physical drives and any separate partitions on your PC hard drive (EXCEPT ANY RECOVERY PARTITION...which "should" be set to "read only" and therefore "should not" be infected). Once you format your drive(s) the virus goes bye bye.

Then follow ohgood's advice on creating a restore disk image...just don't let him talk you into buying a MAC, it takes years to get deprogrammed from that cult... :icon_razz: :icon_razz: :icon_razz:
