So i've been having trouble with my bike shutting off on me and went through all kind of things to try and figure it out. and come to find out its the petcock i dont believe the vacuum is working or something. so if anyone has one that works or knows a place to find one at a reasonable price let me know. thanks!
You can run you bike in "Prime" until you get a new petcock. You can get a used GSF petcock on ebay for relatively cheap (I paid about 30 for mine shipped,) or you can use a petcock off a Honda CRF250X. I had the same problem on my GS500E, so I bought an '07 petcock off ebay, and haven't had any issues since.

I have a petcock drilled to allow higher fuel flows off a 1st gen GS500. I'll sell it to you for $20+shipping, but then you have to send me your old one so I can drill that one too.
Or you can look on beergarage and drill your own:

The page is not finished, but the pictures are plenty to figure it out if you are mechanically inclined. Just be careful not to drill all the way through the little plastic deal in the center that is totally out of focus in pic 9.
Cheers
Jason

What exactly does that do? Eliminate the need for a vacuum line to the petcock?
i had this problem last week. didnt want to depend on vac to get fuel so i went the CRF250X route. works like a charm and for me its easier to remove the tank by putting the frame petcock on off. the crf one mounts on ghetto style with zip ties or you can fab up a plate that moves the mount about 1 inch. be sure to get the crf X model one and not the R. they are different. good luck.
Does the 07 petcock still require vacuum to operate?
