Title: Anyone tried flipping the 89 clipons?
Post by: Ugluk on June 14, 2010, 10:14:13 AM
I assume it's the ones I got. They're bolted to the plate on the top triple with a pair of risers rather than clamped to the forks uppers.

I've gotten the impression that these were used to raise the handle bars by shifting left for right, but I'm thinking of flipping them as well to get the bars moved forward and down.
Anyone tried that?
It will require some milling to make them bolt on flush, but I don't think they'll be much weaker?

Um, I had mine for a brief while, but they are clamped to the upper plate that covers the tripples.  How can that be flipped - can't?!

You want lower bars than the 89 ...  :cookoo: ...
Buy a 90 and later triple and a set of clubman bars and give me the 89 bars ...

Yea ... very important, that last step ...

Cool.

Well, I'm 6' with apparently quite long arms. I was thinking of making rearsets and have bars lowered and moved about 2".
Felt good when i tried it, but there were some issues with cables and the shape of the risers so I didn't go through with it.

I feel the riding position is currently a bit broomhandle-up-the-backside, yes.

I like cuddling up when going for longer rides.

O.C.D.,
It's not the plate I'm gonna flip, but the risers bolted to it. Instead of up and back they'll point forward down.

That's it!
I'll mill instead of making spacers though. Shouldn't be too difficult and add a lot of rigidity to the mount.

When done I'll put pics up, as those mentioned seems dud.

I raced for about 2 yrs with them spacer blocks
just make them tight fit to the h-bar clamps
