Could my carbs being out of balance cause the following problems?
1. idles way low and then dies, unless I keep the choke on. (If I try to adjust the idle screw, the idle jumps up to 4k and stays there. I have tried adjusting the idle screw in combination with the choke adjustment, and the throttle cable adjustment.)
2. tank vibration and buzz from 4k to 6k, no buzz below or above.
Think is stock bike, haven't had down time to jet carbs, when I do . What size pilots and mains should I use.
I'm pretty much at a loss on this problem. Any help would be great!!!!!!
Thank you all in advance!!!!!!!!
Also gotta replace the left side engine case gasket, due to an oil leak on the lower left side of case. yeah fun, I hope I have time to get it done this weekend!!
Yes to #1, no to #2.
All stock bike... 40 pilots 125 mains. And 1 1/2 mm thick washer, and mix screw 3 turns. Does it also have that annoying hole in the power just as you try to take off from a stop... Then 40's are the cure.
Cool.

Yep, it has that annoying hole in power just as you try to take off from a stop.
I will call my local shop an find out how much the jets will cost me. They want lik $89 for a jet kit.
what would be a good price for the jets, if I just my the jets??
Thank srinath!!!!!!!!
Jets should be $2.50 apiece. I wrote up a howto on the main site
http://www.gstwin.com/rejet.htm I believe.
What brand of carbs did a 96 gs500 come with? I think they are mikuni, am I correct on this one?
The jets are mikuni large round (8mm diameter of the head) the 6mm ones also work but be careful how much you tighten them...
Jet kits cost $25+10 at www.KNfilters.com... and they dont include pilots.
Pilots are non bleed style... so they dont have those machine gun holes on the sides. You basically dont need a kit. I have the kit but have never installed it... and have not needed to... maybe I should just for the heck of it and compare.
Cool.

Thanks guys , Im off to pick up my jets. Hopefully the local shop has them in stock. I have to stop my and pick up my gasket after work today anyway!!
Again, thanks for all of the help. You guys are great!!!!!!!!!
:) the buzzing tank you refer to is more than likely the tank being loose, if not the two bolts on the frame then try the two uder the tank.
You can check this by lifting tank up at rear and there are bolts that atach the tank to a bracket if these are loose the tank will vibrate. Also check the rubber at the front of the tank is in good condition or is actualy there. :thumb:
