err sorry if this is a dumb question... I know you can jump a bike with a car.. not sure if you can do it the other way around. Ever since I got the GS, my mk4 1.8t Jetta has been sitting, now the battery is dead...
Lesson learned = should have a battery charger at home.
So go get one and put it on the car. And when done, you now have a charger for should you need it for the bike :thumb:

Rule of thumb is that you jump off a higher capacity or at least similar capacity battery. I doubt the bike battery would have sufficient capacity to turn the car over and the current it would draw may well damage something in the bikes charging system if you tried it with the bike running.
Get a mate round in his car and jump off that :thumb:
invest in a jumper pack...
you could but you would need to leave your GS running at a high idle for a long time to get charge into it depends on how low your battery is i would think maybe 1/2 to an hour for a batt that wont crank at all . As sledge said i wouldn't try jump it with the battery connected. I would do what Mister said and buy a charger then all your problems are over.
Its likely to kill your bike's battery (and not start the car).
If this were me I would not do this to my bike battery. I don't think this is healthy for the battery.
If there were no other options I'd be tempted to try to use the bike to put some charge on the battery of the car for a bit. After that, I would either try the car on its own and if need be jump it from the bike now that the car battery is going to take some of the hit.
Get someone to jump you from another car or better yet buy a battery charger that has a setting low enough for a bike, big enough for a car, and strong enough to provide a boost/jump to a car.
Ahhh, Doesn't sound like a good idea to me! I don't think I'd try it.

it could work in theory, but I wouldn't do it myself
If the bike was running I'd bet it would eat the stator when you hit the cars starter. They just don't put out enough amps to handle that kind of draw.
The car starter would suck the life juice out of the GS battery like a vampire sucks up all the blood of its victim. :icon_twisted:
Well first off, a battery is not a capacitor. You could try to start the car with the motorcycle battery but unless it's a small car, it may drain the battery. This is because of the capacity of the battery which is too low to run the car but there may be enough to start the car. I would definitely not do it regularly but in a pinch, I'd atleast try.

Alright here's the skinny: The Cold Cranking Amps of the GS battery are about 160. This means at 0F your battery is going to put out 160amps of cranking power for up to 30 seconds. Now, it will be a little more than that with a warm battery..
Most cars starters require 300-400 Cranking Amps to turn the engine over.. (depending on the size of the engine.. Diesel can be anywhere from 500-1000.) Best case scenario.. you're gs battery is in perfect condition and is going to give you 180 (Assuming it's above freezing) Amps.. the battery in your car isn't TOTALLY dead and will give you another 50-100 amps.. and your engine isn't on a compression stroke and will fire right away you MIGHT be able to do it. I *doubt* (but, don't know for sure) that it will cause any damage to your electrical system on your bike.. other than draining your battery.. you can't suck more power out of your stator than it can provide.. it could stall your bike though.. then you would have two dead batteries.
Theoretically you could let the GS charge your car battery.. but, being an air cooled engine I would be worried about over-heating it. It would probably take 10-30 minutes of your bike sitting at idle to charge your car battery enough to get it to start.
Short answer: It is *POSSIBLE* and *PROBABLY* wont damage your bike. Don't do it. Find a buddy with a car, or get yourself a charger/jumper.
