Title: Wanted - Forks, brakes, other for race bike build
Post by: Kurlon on June 18, 2010, 12:25:32 PM
Hi all,

I'm helping a friend build a vintage race machine around an 89 GS500E chassis I had.  Raiding my spares and leftover bins has created a near roller, but it's short a few key pieces...

Forks - I have a clampset but no forks to go in them
Brakes - Need front and rear calipers, rear caliper bracket, etc
Axles - Front and rear, spacers/nuts/chain adjusters needed too
Sprocket carrier

As always, this is a race project, so budget is a big concern.  I'm not looking for pretty, just functional and solid.  Reply to this thread, pm me, email me, let me know what you've got.  I'd love to get this all as a lot from one person if possible?

Kicking this to the top, so far no luck tracking down bits.

If he's racing in a non-production class, he'd be well served to install a front end from something with better brakes and suspension. I've had nothing but trouble with the stock GS brakes for race use, and replacing ruined rotors and rebuilding sticking calipers trackside is starting to wear thin.

Interesting, the stock later generation caliper (same as a SV650) plus an EBC contour Pro-lite rotor and GFA pads has been practically bullet proof for me.

The new calipers are much better than the old style calipers (side note: they aren't exactly the same... Turns out that they take different rebuild kits...)

I'm sure that the OEM rotors are partially to blame, but I can't see spending $200 on a rotor when I could put that money into a complete front end.
