I didn't see it in the other thread - do you have a frame petcock in good condition? Also, does the gas tank happen to come with a matched seat lock or ignition?

Are you in the states? I need the stock brake lever.

MJN12: I do have the frame petcock but the diaphragm has been removed and made into a free flowing petcock.

Smaeda: Yes. I am in the states and I have the stock rear brake lever.

What's the story with those drag bars? Possibly the mirrors too but I'd have to see a better picture of them. Do they hinge inward, or do they just rock forward and back??

where in the U.S. ? shipping cost, always an issue.
Title: Re: Parting Out: 1996 GS500-E (Lots of Goodies.)
Post by: cboling on June 21, 2010, 06:27:28 AM
tt_four: the drag bars are chromed "gold" and are fading a little. (not a lot but just enough that eventually, they will be more chrome on the exposed areas.) The mirrors tilt forward and back and the mirrors themselves are positionable. They are plastic but the mirrors are decent quality. They would sit better on standard or dirt bike style bars but work okay with the drag bars.

bobwork: sorry. I am located in Mobile, AL 36609. Most of the small parts I will ship using USPS Flat Rate boxes. Everything else, probably UPS Ground.

I know you said that you need to sell the frame and engine first, but once you do, I would like dibs on the tank and exhaust.

berr0180: Good deal. I am actually waiting to hear back from another member on the frame. If that or the engine sells, then the part out will commence quickly.

I'm possibly interested in the motor, I need to do a compression and leakdown test on mine tonight, ill let you know via pm by tonight.

How many miles on it btw?

How much would you want for the bars and shipping?

I don't think the mirrors will do what I'm looking for. I squeeze my bike in and out of my basement door, and the mirrors are the widest part so I'm hoping to find a pair that are easy to flip up and back down. I don't know if they even make any like that, but it doesn't sound like the way yours flip would actually make the bike any narrower.

Hi, I'm interested in the Veypor Digital Gauge, how well does it work on the GS500? Were you pretty happy with it?
I've read reviews, and am considering switching over from the analog gauges, but I just want more info first.
Can you send me a pic of it and the housing?
Thanks!

SlimKlim: I am not totally sure on the miles. The title said the bike had I think around 21K when I bought it. I have done some repair work on the valves (replaced a bucket, 1 exhaust valve, and shims) and replaced almost all of the major gaskets. It runs good and strong and I was really easy on it. I normally would ride around at about 45-5000rpms. Not much more and never really got on it too much.

tt_four: I would do $20 shipped for the bars?

rickster21: I really liked the veypor gauges and they worked really well. I don't have separate pics of the gauges but will attempt to get you some later this evening if I have some time.

I still might be interested in the tank - what about the ignition / tank cap / seat latch - are the keys matched and is there a possiblity of getting all of this together?

Is the motor still available?  Any idea on freight cost to Tampa, FL ?

Thanks.

mjn12: The ignition is aftermarket and the seat lock key was sold with the old cap. The tank cap on there now is a gold anodized push/turn cap. Really cool and doesn't need the key. You could probably have the seat latch re-keyed pretty cheap. Add $10 for the latch plus about $20 shipping (in the US.)

batglider: I have 2 other interests int he tank. 1 is somewhat serious I think. If that falls through, you would be next. I am working to get the shipping worked out and will post here for anyone interested.

ALL OTHERS: The part out is in effect. I believe there is going to be enough interest in this part out so, let me know what you need and let's get this shindig started.

Hey, thanks but I think I'm gonna hold out. I tried to put some renthals on the Buell tonight to try them out and noticed I'm running into problems with some cables not being long enough, and not easily re-routable like they are on the GS, so I'm gonna hold off on buying any other bars for it until I find out for sure what can fit.

Yes, after my review your are correct. 2nd in line. Approximate shipping is looking somewhere in the range of $100-150 depending on the carrier. Right now, I am waiting to hear back from another member to determine if they want to move forward. If not, I will let you know.

Thanks,

I do have the brake levers. (Hand controls, correct?) If I sell the hand controls, I would like to sell them as a set. They are carbon fiber "look" meaning they had the paint coating that looks like carbon fiber. A bit cheezy but looks alright. I would do $20 shipped for the levers themselves.

Let me know.

Exhaust is still available but I had another member call dibs on it. I sent them an email to see if they want it. Maybe by tomorrow afternoon?

Note for anyone interested in purchasing. I realize it's always a good thing when you can find what you need at a good price but if you really want to buy something and don't want it to get away, please make sure to let the seller know for sure that you want specific items. Remember, it's always a first come first serve (Cash is King) sort of deal. However, I will do my very best to honor someone's request for a part.

Thanks,
CB

Well i guess you guys got in before i did so i'll withdraw my offer.  Its hard finding motors for these things.  I guess most people aren't stupid like me and blow theirs...  Especially seeing how these things are bulletproof...

Good luck with your sale!  I think I'll start buying parts for my rebuild tomorrow.

Cheers.

I have an R6 shock. Silver in color. It was actually the first one installed that sparked the craze on this site. (even though I think it was discussed well before me.)  :D

Anyway, I will take $60 shipped for it in the Continental U.S. overseas or Canada is much more costly.

Thanks,
