It happened to me for the second time tonight. I'm on the freeway and I go up to sixth gear. It rides fine for a little bit only then loses power. I have to quickly signal and move off to the corner and try and restart the bike. The first time it happened I thought I was out of fuel because that's what it felt like, but no because I had filled up the day before. Today when it happened I pulled over and tried to restart the bike. I switched the arrow thing to pri and it started almost right away and stayed on and sounded normal. I switched the arrow back down to normal and was fine the rest of the way home. What could be my problem? Has this happened to anyone else? Am I shifting up to early? Too late? ~7 or 8 rpm
When in sixth I pulled the throttle all the way back. Too much? Too soon? Bike not warmed up enough?
Sounds like in 6th you might not always be getting enough vacuum to keep the fuel valve open. Try leaving it in Prime as you drive around and turn it back to On when you park. If this fixes it you have the dreaded "crapy fuel valve" problem which is quite common.
I had a similar problem, and drove around on PRIme for a couple weeks, until I found that (call me crazy) my bike works fine on REServe. The only explanation I can find is that the mesh screen on the fuel inlet in the tank is clogged at the higher ON level, but not clogged lower. I plan to clean it out in the spring, but for what it's worth, you might try running on RES and see what happens.
But if I run on RES and don't keep track of how much fuel I've used I'm screwed. Don't want to risk that. So I have to clean something or run on PRI apperently.
remeber this: if you ride on prime dont forget to shut it off when you park itor you will have the dreaded empty tank fuel on the ground problem
