Alright I have an 89 gs 500, it wont start up and with every rotation of the crank there is a clanking noise. This started when some fuel got into the oil...A guy I know offered a trade. The trade is an 89 240sx with a bad motor and a good motor not installed(value I figure around $700 give or take $100)my part, for him to rebuild the motor, bore out 10 over, clean the carbs and paint the bike. I buy parts. does it sound like a good deal or not?
Well, they're two totally different things. And it depends on whether you still want to ride a gs500 anymore. You can usually pick up a used engine in decent condition for the gs500 for relatively cheap.
so you have an 89 240 and an 89 gs. you are thinking you should trade him your 240 for him to work on your bike, is that right? value is based on what you hold it at.
if the 240 is your only car, and the gs your only bike, i'd say work out a different deal. but, if the 240 is a project and you dont mind getting rid of it, than go for it. i dont know how much that work will actually cost you at a shop..
personally, i think the car would be worth more so it should be a straight trade with parts included for the work. he gets a car that can be running by just swapping the motor (i've done it, not that difficult) and you get yourself a bike running fine and dandy. obviously he's mechanically inclined so i'd say he contribute to parts and paint if he's getting the car out of it.
