Title: Best Aftermarket Handlebar Options
Post by: numnutz on June 22, 2010, 07:37:56 AM
Hey everyone,

Looking for everyone to let me in on my handlebar options. I would like a little more swept back and lower handlebars. I guess a little more of a sportbike look. Since I'm only 5'9'' I'm not too worried about my rider triangle. But anyway I'm hoping you guys can let me know my options and the pros and cons of each of them.

I know suburban machinary makes a set but I don't see too make people running them?
What about those ebay clipons?
Which company clipons would you go with (excluding 89' clipons)?

Thanks,
Nick

vortex and woodcraft both make clipons.  A little pricey though.  You could always use clubmans, they're similar to clipons, and relatively cheap, but mount like the standard handlebars.

Clip-ons rule! above the clamp anyway.

Yeah, as far as ergonomics go, I think 89's are the best, since they'll be just slightly higher than mounting aftermarket clipons above the clamps.

Great body position on the bars and far more capable of keeping the driving tight and steady. I did not install them (previous owner did).

As far as the clipon ergos go, I really think you'd do best with either the 89s or the clubmans, if you find some that are wide enough to clear the top clamp. My reasoning is that the GS vibrates enough as it is. Clamping your bars right to the forks make it so much worse. At least the other two options attach to the top clamp, and gives you the benefits of those rubber gaskets between the top clamp and the top triple.

You could also look into some drag bars, as that was always my next plan for the GS.
