Just need to vent...gahh...
So, this past weekend I decided to check my valves. Last time, about 6K ago, I adjusted all of my valves to the loose side of spec (0.1mm all around). So I expected to find them plenty loose still. Things went great, it took me all of 30 minutes to get from fully assembled bike to measuring the valves. The intakes were right where I left them, but both exhaust valves were at < 0.04mm. Blarg...time to adjust. So, I call up my favorite bike shop that does free valve swaps. Bummer...they don't have the right size 29.5mm diameter shims I need (I needed 2.6mm and 2.55mm). SO I get to hunting around for these shims. Call like 5 places in my area, NO ONE has the right size shims in stock. Finally found some on-line, so I ordered like 2 of each size from 2.35mm on up. Call the place today, they said they can't ship 'till Friday. Which means I won't have the shims until next week. Which means TWO bike-less weekend for me, when the weather here in SoCal is just PERFECT. Blarg!!
No blame to anyone here but me. The shop (Cycle Re-Cycle) was great to deal with and had a nice selection of parts. Can't blame them for not stocking our odd-ball sized shims. Lesson learned - either borrow the valve shim kit or stock up on the sizes you think you might need - it'll save you a week of waiting.
Dude, where have you been? ghost1 posts once a week! http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=52480.msg592978#msg592978
