theres no link and i wouldnt spend 1000 on anything that needs clutch work unless i know 100% that a clutch pak would fix the problem fully. listed clutch problems could = tranny problems

2nd gear slips but not 1st or 3rd? I don't think that's a clutch problem.
agreed with paulcet here im an MMI grad, heck frankie if you could grab it for say 500 lol. id overhaul it for you. ( no charge, well except for say a bus ticket) but the symptoms worry me the clutch pack MIGHT be the reason then again might be a bandaid fix as well. as in coering up the reqal problem. to me it sounds worse than clutch only. sounds like clutch plus worn out trans 90k is ALOT of mileage. i did an R&r on a harley lowrider with 198k, as well as an upper end overhaul, as well as same on a bmw with almost 312k on it. those were teh rare exceptions to the high mileage rule. in all honesty id shoot south of a thousand. because it might ONLY be a clutch r&r OR might be a clutch r&r plus a trans job :(. and boy those are fun lol
you guys r right i'm gonna give it a pass...he went from 1500 to 1000 quick. he knows it is shaZam!. there is a tl1000s i am looking at. bike prices r dirt cheap right now.
Slow down, slow down ... 2 gear = common and its a transmission dog issue in nearly verey bike that eats those.
You rev in 1st high, and dump it in 2nd ... eats 2nd with age, wear and abuse.
That is one reason when back in the day when they wanted the bikes to live ... they put 5 speed trannies in the bigger bikes. Like GSXR 750 had 6 speed and the 1100 had 5.
2nd takes a lot of load, couple that with abuse and you have a recipie for a disaster.
Some bikes are worse than others ... like the pre 84 4 cyl yamaha ... awful. Design flaw and riders useage pattern kill em. Suzuki 4's of that age - 80's, typically suffer from indecisive shifting. Too many 1/2 hearted shifts and they go.
Cool.
Buddha.
Common flaw in the Yamaha transmissons they don't undercut the gear which leads to rounding off of the edge of the gear when the shifter dogs engage it. It's not a difficult fix but does require labor to get the motor out and turn it upside to work on it.

frankie, talk to the guys @ tampasportbikes, pureacceleration, and bob-the-biker ( think he's on here some ). they'll find you a GOOD bike for a good price. the stunter dudes there are really good at fixing a rat bike up, and parts flow like honey.
CL in tampa is jam packed full of good stuff, hot stuff, and crap stuff. ... but it's still a ton of stuff !
i ahve about 1.00003% desire for a bike right now. guess i need a change in perspective or a bazzillion dollars ;-)

Or go up to orlando ( near hte MMI campus there) bikes ther are a dime a dozen. O-town for sure. elsewhere in FL as well i assume. ALOT of bikes plus long riding season usually equals reasonable prices
