Title: Dumb question
Post by: tykho on June 28, 2010, 04:34:42 PM
Just wondering, do all GS500s come with the same size valve shims from the factory? I finally got around to doing my valve adjustment at 7100 miles, and I was curious to see if the dealer actually changed out the shims as they said they did when they sold the bike to me. Doesn't really matter too much I guess, just wondering how honest my local dealer is.

i wouldnt know.. but i would imagine that the shims may not all start at the same size due to variations from one bike to another. they wouldnt be able to make them exactly the same so the shims might be different thicknesses from factory.

again, i dont really know though =]

i beleave that every bike is put together then clearance is checked and set with the right shims.

Yea, that's kinda what I figured, just wasn't sure. I never had to do a valve check on my CBR600RR, so it was a fun experience anyway, 7100 miles and all the valves were out of spec, .02 on both the intake and one of the exhaust and .01 on the other exhaust.
