Title: Deer almost smack!
Post by: redhawkdancing on July 02, 2010, 06:46:13 PM
So...I was cruising home and stopped at a 4 way when Johny Squid pulls up behind me.  I had seen the kid around and figured he would just blow past me. He hit the throttle a couple of times, but he seemed content running behind me in staggered formation. I was running faster than usual for the time of day. It was just before dusk and the deer should be out in full force.

Sure enough mother and baby go charging over from the right hand side. I immediately let off the throttle and waited for them to go buy while Johny goes blowing past me, looking in the direction that they came from. Had there been more, he would have gotten ran over.

I had a semi-close encounter a week or two ago. I've been down that road once and hope to never do it again.

Try riding in PA at night in September when the temperature dips into the 30's and all you have on is riding gear and a t-shirt under the jacket.  There were mounds of deer in the country.  It was pretty crazy and reaction time was horrible.

My wife's car was hit by a deer a couple weeks ago.

She was driving about 40 and a doe jumped out of the trees and t-boned her drivers side door.

it did $6000 of damage and decapitated the deer.

She needed a new hood, front quarter panel, drivers door, windshield, drivers window, and rear quarter panel.

The deer hit about 1 inch below the bottom of the window and pushed the metal in about a foot.

Yeah, my friend was driving his car when he hit a deer after homecoming this year.  I've had close encounters twice, both within a mile of my house.  PA deer are insane.
