Title: More carb woes
Post by: flyingmachine on July 03, 2010, 10:34:48 PM
The GS gone through some hard times with flooded carbs and running lean till I tore the carbs apart last year.  Everything ran fine for a while and I then I took 4-5 months off of riding.  Today when I tried to get a short ride in, it won't idle unless the choke is partially engaged.  I don't look forward to tearing everything apart again, can the bike be ridden this way for a while?

next time you are going to store it for more than a month put stabil in the tank and run it through the carbs for a while. that will prevent this.

thanks, I really need to remember to that next time.  For now, is there some additives (seafoam) I could add for now with out opening it up?  Unfortunately the bike is parked at a friend's house where I really can't do too much work on it.

Seafoam is pretty awesome, but it's no substitute for an actual cleaning.  You should probably drain the gas tank, too, and fill it with a fresh tank of gas.  Seriously though, it shouldn't take more than an hour, even quicker if you have a friend help, to pull the carbs, clean them, and stick em back in.
