Title: dimming lights while revving?
Post by: average on July 08, 2010, 11:24:52 PM
Title says it all. I took the battery in the house a few weeks ago to charge it just for s&g's; installed and everything was fine. But the last few days everytime I've needed to use the bike I've had to pop the clutch. Rode around for like 2 hours tonight but when I got home I tried to start and still nothing but clicking. This is Buddha Sheite! This battery isn't even a year old and I'm having these issues? What the damn? Can anyone share any ensight on this?

Something did not get hooked back up properly when you re-installed the battery?

How about both grounds off the battery? You did know there was more than 1, didn't you?

I really don't know, just guessing, since all you did was take the battery out, charge it, and replace it. Right?

Check the simple stuff first. Good luck.

you most likely over charged the battery that happend to me with my shadows battery. had it for 3-4 months and it was winter here in GA. so i went to start it one day and it didnt want to turn over so i put it on trickel charge for 4-5 hours and it fried a cell so had to get new battery.

If it is not a sealed battery i would check and make sure that the fluid levels are correct.  You may not have enough fluid in the cells if you have been moving it around alot and were not careful in keeping the battery upright.

mine only has one ground.  :dunno_black: there is another very small diameter wire coming off the ground terminal, where does that go?

Need to lube your starter.  Armature's locked up.

Grab a meter and check the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine above 2500 RPM. Should read between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. :thumb:

The metal frame of the bike.
If it is not hooked up it can contribute to a lot of different problems that can be hard to diagnose.

I have a feeling you fried your battery; I did it and had the same exact program. Was the charger for a bike specifically?
If you take it to the local bike shop they can test the battery and if the fluid is dry they might just top it off for you.
Good luck.

where exactly does it attach to? I think it might be loose because my tach has been acting strange lately. ive already tightened the large cable on the block, both terminals on the batt, and the engine mount bolts.

I was thinking about just adding a ground cable to go from the frame to the engine, the fact that that tiny wire is the chassis ground makes me want to do it more. maybe even add a cable from the batt to the frame

The metal frame wiring harness of the bike.

That's the wire I'm talking about. (corrected above) It goes to the black/white-stripe wire through a connector right behind the battery, and then disappears into the wiring harness.

Look for the black/white-stripe wire off the battery in the wiring diagram from the wiki below.

Looks kind of important to me.  :dunno_black:

Yeah, I know, my bike desperately needs a bath.  :embarrassed:
