Title: got me a new cruiser
Post by: manoj on July 11, 2010, 11:55:15 AM
bought a 2001 Intruder VS800 .....runs great and  sounds awesome..... has a very loud after market slip-ons
felt great impressed by the V-twin riding for the first time ever, when the seller let me take it for a spin

now I have the bike............ riding it 150 miles almost everyday is so much more stressful when compared to my GS
I am 6 feet but still feel ride position is very cramped and get stiff back after every ride

over 80 the handling is uninspiring and often scary..the tires are stock Bridgestone140/90-15 ..Which tires are good to go on this bike.If I increase the suspension height will it make the handling worse

does anyone have a seat to go on 2001 VS800  http://img12.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=dscn3992k.jpg

I didn't think most cruiser's would hit 80! Does it have highway pegs? Those'll probably help if the legs are cramped, but I could see the riding position being tough on your back.

My sportster id run it on the interstate 85+ ( mph) was an 883c course i DID have it set up for a supercharger. i did have highway pegs/forward controls, BUT if legs still gotcrapmed id put my feet back on teh passenger pegs, felt almost like a gixxer seating position and was pretty comfy

It does have high-way peg but am so not used to the riding position ,my back tends to stoop forward.was able to manage 90 on it and still some punch left.I weigh 150 pounds and have to struggle to steer ,overtake..even if I lean to side bike wants to go straight.

Think will trade it for a SV650 or something similar soon..

lol!  Depends on the cruiser.  If you buy an extra large giant pee pee extension, like mine, it'll hit 130.   :icon_mrgreen:  Yay 1500ccs!

I found the Intruder to be a bit cramped also, I liked the size of the Marauder (aka M) more.

I don't think Highway pegs are the best solution (even though you already have them).  You can't get to your break/shifter very fast and they can get in the way if you're walking the bike.

You should think about trying forward controls (http://www.google.com/products?q=Intruder+forward+controls).

Start with an airhawk and see how that improves things.

the seats were torn on the bike, got a stock seat of ebay which is even lower than corbin seat it has right now.will try gel pad plus raising shocks to max position. The riding position right now is horrible with my hip at a lower position than knee and causes back pain even after short ride

If its not a Harley its not a cruiser! There are only sport bikes and Harleys.............

Ok let it begin!  :2guns:

There are Harleys and there are motorcycles...

I ride motorcycles, I don't buy clothes with the name on 'em.   :flipoff:

Funny thing is my helmet is a 3/4 with a full flip shield, and it says Harley on in. It was my Dads barely used old one and Im not turning down a free helmet.  8)

I was out last weekend looking for new riding pants for the wife.  We went by a few "metric bike" places, then I thought I'd walk across to the "Hardley" dealership to see what they had.  There wasn't a single item for sale that was missing the Harley logo. :icon_rolleyes:

When people ask me if I ride a Harley, I always reply, "No, I ride a motorcycle."

I have nothing against Harelys. Most owns do looovvve to let you know they own one. I can see myself getting a sportster in the future.

I was riding my mates dyna glide yesterday and I can honestly say not a bike I would buy for myself but still I can see why people like them. With the 1600cc engine and lumpy cams the thing had bucket loads of power (way more then usable for the ride), sits on the road really well, the strong gusty wind didn't even move the bike, it did move me though and the brakes were really good for such a big beast. What I didn't like was I can't get my knees together to grip the bike with them (plus his dam air filter stack is in the way), don't like the way it corners and how un-nimble it is, the seating position overall. Couldn't ride long distance on that bike. Plus cause of the cam it didn't want to crawl around round abouts easily. Still enjoyed the ride from the point of view of being able to take something different for a good run and get to know it. Also took his KTM 625 SMC for a rap too which I enjoyed more except at 5' 10" its a wee bit tall and top heavy for me for heavy duty off road work.
