Post by: ameen on July 12, 2010, 09:20:04 AM
Does anyone know the size and thread pitch of the two screws that hold teh gas tank on?  it is part # 01551-0840B or part number 11 on the fuel tank diagram

Thanks

The exact size I don't know, I never had the originals. You can go long, since there's nothing in the way. You should be fine with one about 50mm long.

Check the wiki:

I put in the entry for gas tank bolts. I used 40mm long ones. They go all the way through the gas tank holes and just barely protrude through the nut on the inside of the frame. Perfect fit for me. I bought stainless ones so I never have to worry about rust. Go figure though, I accidentally grabbed a pack with a standard size head, so I have to use my standard socket set to take the tank off. Not a big deal for me since my standard and metric are in the same kit.

I hate those. Its a metric size but they slap on SAE heads. The M8 is usually 1/2" but a 13mm will fit. Not too many of those on my bike so I only grab them when I know I'll be needing them.

Yeah. thats what mine are - 1/2". Oh well. I'll just toss a 1/2 wrench into the kit one of these days.
