Title: Strange Transmission Issue
Post by: Twism86 on July 13, 2010, 07:44:47 AM
So this only happened once yesterday but it may have not been good for the bike...

I was accelerating through the gears pretty fast but not really going past 6/7k. As i went into 6th this happened: I pull in the clutch, shifted into 6th, released the clutch. As i was giving it gas it just revved as if in neutral. Then it suddenly "slammed" into gear. Any insight on this? I pulled over and them slowly accelerated through the gears again without problem. I may be leaking oil now.....

I have a similar issue. Mine however happens when accelerating hard and going into 2nd. It'll click all the way in and accelerate some but it pops out. So far I've just attributed it to operator error. I usually shift up clutchless which leads me to believe the dog engages but not all the way in. Once there's no pressure on the shift drum the vibes and forces in the trans will pop it out of gear. Occasionally it will pop back in too, but I usually clutch in and put it back in gear.

False neutral. It usually happens as the result of becoming a bit lazy in shifting and not pulling up the shifter as forcefully and deliberately as normal. It's a bit startling when it happens, but your bike is fine and I wouldn't worry about it. Just be more deliberate when pulling up or pushing down the shifter.

Ok, well hopefully it was rider error.  Im still worried about the little amount of oil i found under my bike after that ride, but it hasnt gotten any bigger so what ever leaked may have stopped.

Its happened to me a couple of times too. I was thinking a sticky clutch cable, but I think it is the 'lazy shifting' issue - happened only when using my mew boots which have a thick shifter pad on the top which makes it difficult for me to 'feel' the shift with my foot.

You have checked the oil level IN the motor, right?

This was just based on a quick observation at night and before work...

I came home from work today and warmed the bike up and gave it a quick ride. Checked the oil, perfectly full to where it was 3 weeks ago. Also let the bike sit while running, nothing drips and the underside of the bike is perfectly clean. So it looks like im not leaking, a leaking car must have been in "my" spot during the day when i was at work...
