Title: installed headlight oscillator and taillight flasher
Post by: elader on July 17, 2010, 04:44:00 PM
pm me if you need to know where I got them. Headlight was too easy. Unplug cable, plug flasher into headlight, plug cable into flasher, position light sensor (so the light doesn't oscillate when it gets dark out). Device oscillates headlight bright beam from full to 20% multiple times per second. I am convinced this makes the bile much more visible during my daily commute. As soon as it gets dark (or tunnel, etc), it stops oscillating. The taillight flasher I had to splice to the brake wire - did this before the plug near the tailiight. Took about five minutes (did make sure which was the brake wire using the voltmeter). It flashes the brake 4 times and then goes solid. If you do it repeatedly within a minute, it stop s so as to not drive the guy behind you crazy.

together, these were $80.

If you could post links to the parts, that would be great.  I just bought a super visible mesh jacket (FieldShear HiFlow II) that is bright yellow.  It's great, but I'd like to be even more visible to lazy, cell-phone-chatting drivers.  A headlight flasher would be perfect.  It's great that it reverts to a normal headlight automatically.

well the headlight part was idiot proof... the taillight required taking off the back fairing and the grab bar and splicing a couple of wires

Sweet.  A combo deal for $84.  That's not bad.
