I have wanted a rear seat (passenger seat) cowling and it seems no one makes one for the GS500F seat.
I'm in the bowling business and a company I work with does plastics molding for consoles for automatic scoring systems. They will make a rear seat cover for the GS500F seat. I just got a used seat in to send them so they can digitize the form and make a cowling.
What would you like to look like? Send me some ideas or photos of cowlings that you'd like to see for the GS500F seat. I was thinking of something with a little curve, but if I wanted to, I could add on some rails to make it a cargo rack.
I see that Suzuki lists the same part for the seat since 2001 but different parts for the bumpers on the underside of the seat. Since the cowling will fit the onto the seat, the difference in the bumpers shouldn't make any difference. The seat I got in fits a little different than the one that came on my 2009 GS500F, with a little more gap between the seat and the side cowlings of the bike. The new passenger seat cowling/cover will attach to the seat, so an eighth inch difference in how the seats fit on the bike won't make any difference. Maybe someone can enlighten me more on what Suzuki did different in how the seats fit.
I plan to send them the seat and a couple mock-ups from cardboard in a week or two. So give me your suggestions and we could have a passenger seat cover for the GS500F before the end of the year.
This is the one cafeboy did for my bike. The horrible paintjob is me!

+1 for this, I love the scheme of it.
I have a question though, would all colors be available?
Right now we do not plan to paint them. We will leave that up to the biker since there are so many different color schemes. We may make standard colors like black and white available.
I want it so the passenger grab bar does not have to be removed. Then you can quickly remove the cover if you have a passenger.
I appreciate the suggestions so far.
I'll keep you updated as we proceed with this project.
maybe if it were designed the same way as the second one that Mary posted, but cut away at the back so that the cowling will either slide or be able to be placed over the grab bar. Not sure if that makes sense :/
Or I could stop being lazy and remove the grab bar.
+1 interest to this
No offence but we've been through this a few times. Do a search on Cowl Tech in case you weren't around for that. I'd say get some ideas, get em made up, send a few out for testing, and then take orders. Good Luck.
If you get the cowl's made and they are decent priced, i would like it get one. Thanks
I've got some older ones coming that I'll study as a pattern. I did find a new one in Europe, but they guy that makes them is no good at shipping.
I'll keep it updated as things progress. Going slower that expected because I'm exploring what was available and spending some time searching for old, new factory pieces for my '92. (Just got in a new-old-stock headlight cowling - factory original, unused. Wrong color so it will have to be painted but with factory color from color-rite.com)
Grats on the headlight cowl!
Definitely this one adidasguy.

It is not really a solo seat if it still has a grab rail. The grab rail would not be to much of an issue to take off and install.
That looks like the Cowl Tech.
NEVER order from them! I finally got one after 3 months and a bazillion phone calls and excuses.
I have a couple more coming in from Germany and was given one that someone on the board made. So I'll have a few examples that should make it ease for my guy to fabricate a mold.
Then we'll need some GS owners in Long Beach area to try them out. I'll keep you all posted.
We could use the molds that others have used and are no longer making them if we could get them (rear hugger, too).
How are the cowls coming along? Not being pushy just interested in the progress ;)
I just made a cowl for my gs500F. I made my own mold for the cowl, and i used fiberglass to make it. Its not very easy to make, but i am almost done. It takes time and patience to make one. Right now I am doing a final sanding, and going to primer it.

I'd buy this for $150
Wouldn't do it from Cowltech (think that is who it was) BAD Folks I heard from a lot of members here. Think they are stickied it too!
Mary
Cowltech is a pain in the butt. I got one and it took 3 months and lots of calls with "Oh, I'll send you tracking...". Once they said the package was lost and is in the lost package depot in Illinois. If there - why couldn't it get sent to me? Why didn't get returned to them? Just liars!
My ambitions are on hold right now as there seemed to be too little interest in an "F" seat cowl to go to the expense make them. I do have about 4 different ones I bought as examples. I suppose I could send the cowltech to my friend in LA and have them duplicate it.
If your friend in LA did that what do you think the price would be? I'm def interested in one I still use the one Cafeboy sent me for my birthday a couple of years ago!
Mary
Oh, we get birthday presents? Mine is end of March. Surprise me!
Id be intrested!
I will be in if the price is right..
Me too if it would fit an 2001 gs
I'd like one too.
Well, you know being the girl of the forum I get treated a little "differently" ahem. LMAO
what would you like for your B-day dear Adidas? Not like I could get you a GS part you got just about every danged extra part ever made for them. I'll just stop by the Adidas store and as long as it says "Adidas" on it you'd love it! That's it I'll find the strangest thing I can that has an Adidas label on it and give it to you!
Mary
Oh, March 24
You love the photo of me in my adidas underwear. Always glad to model the latest fashion. Blue or white on Suzi. Red or black on Junior.
As far as a concern for paint, I would paint these for like 20 bucks plus the cost of the paint if you send me the cowl and specify the base coat you want used.

Really would love one this style... If not I guess I may have to make one myself later on down the road..
For those interested, there wasn't that much interest to make one AND I had found it is a stock item from Balu Racing in Germany for 39 euros. Available for the older seats (1989-2000) and the newer seats (2001+)

loving the seat cowls. I decided to just get a yard of vinyl fabric from ebay ($10) and recover (well cover OVER) the rear part of my stock seat. I mocked it up with white fabric from the fabric store (cost me $2) and i think i like the look. I'll even paint a blue stripe on the vinyl cover so it looks a lot more like the seat cowl in the pics up above. Here are some pics of my gs500 with the mocked up seat cover.

I'm curious if that will lift once you hit highway speeds? I can see the wind tucking around you and pulling the fabric up like a kite? I could be wrong though.
Not to be a jerk, but that vinyl one would only look good from a distance. It looks rather cheap in the picture. I cant imagine it would stay on either.
Hey adidasguy,
You mentioned that you were getting a couple from germany. Just out of curiosity, did you order these ones? If so, could you post pictures with them on your bike.
Thanks

I haven't updated you guys on the seat cover lol sorry about that!! The cover you saw on the seat was just for me to see what it could look like if I covered it, that wasn't the ACTUAL fabric that I was going to use. This is what it looks like now with the white vinyl covering. It is stapled to the bottom of the seat like the original and no it does not flap up or move in any way!! I did get them in. Since I put a carrier on Suzi, I never put the cowling on. Seemed out of place with the carrier so I sold it to another member that needed a rear cowl for licensing (single seat cheaper in his country than one that carries a passenger.)
Since I had Junior as a solo bike and sometimes Trey, I just didn't need it. Then I got that custom seat for Suzi so she's just fine without a cowling.
