Title: Heli-coil help
Post by: ameen on July 31, 2010, 01:17:11 PM
So, two of the valve cover screws stripped the threads in the cam journals.  I purchased a M7x1.0 Heli-coil kit.  I tapped the oversized threads with the included tap but cannot get the insert to catch the threads and go in.

Any advice?

Thanks

Try retapping the thread again just incase you`ve cross threaded it,if you can`t get on with the threading in tool, try screwing helicoil in by hand then use bolt to tighten it down, read the destructions.

I finally got it in last night.  I just took a lot of patience and a very very steady hand.  I actually took it to 3 mechanics/repair shops and they all tried and thought either the tap was too small or the insert was too big.  damn that was a pain in the ass

as a note to anyone who tries this: remember to remove the tab before inserting the screw
